Is fluorite a suitable substrate to use in a planted tank that was going to house a Betta?
I was thinking about starting up a planted tank and the first substrate that came to mind was fluorite. I have read on various websites that Betta's need rounded substrate so they don't rip their fins and by the looks of Fluorite on the website (http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Flourite.html) it looks like quite a sharp substrate. I'd like to know if anyone has Betta's in a tank with this type of Fluorite in it and if there is a rounder alternative that still helps plants grow. I don't really want to put a layer of normal gravel or sand over the Fluorite.
Peter C, I'm going for a planted tank not a Betta vase. Keeping Bettas in small spaces is cruel and unnecessary.
Betta doesn't move or bury them in the substrate. And they also don't spend a lot of time at the bottom of the tank. They spend most of their time close to the surface of the water. And thus you can use fluorite substrate without an y concern.
