Glass Doors Design

 

A few decades ago, the most popular types of doors were the large, heavy, sturdy medieval-looking wooden doors with great, intricately carved designs all over the beautifully stained wood.

While those doors may still be beautiful, they also create a darker, more foreboding atmosphere for your home, because they do not allow light through and were usually stained in dark colors to create the image of being very old.

However, the modern trend has been toward the lighter and more elegant glass doors because they allow plenty of light to pass from window through door, from room to room.

Glass doors create a lighter, more welcoming atmosphere, and it’s been proven that a well-lit home can improve your mood and allow you to be more productive in general.Thus, glass doors can be a great option for your home and office, if you would like a warmer atmosphere.

There are a variety of designs that can be created on glass doors, just like with wood and its carvings. Glass door design can be very complex or very simplistic yet beautiful—there are many different ways to create wonderful designs on glass.

First is the glass frosting process. Frosting glass via sandblasting will create a translucent, rougher-looking glass door design that can show any number of intricate designs.

If you want more depth in your glass door design, then sandblasting is great because using this method of frosting in several steps, different transparencies can be created in the glass.

Lighter and heavier translucencies are akin to the shading of a piece of artwork, and create a wonderful three dimensional effect.

Another method of glass frosting is through the Leptat acid process, which was first developed by the Czechoslovakians in the World Fair that was in Osaka, Japan.

The Leptat acid process frosts and etches glass much more deeply than does sandblasting; while sandblasting will create a rough sheen over the glass and may look a little plastic-like, the Leptat acid process frosts glass by creating deep crystalline etchings that make the glass look like a cut gem, and causes thousands of glittering lights to reflect off the multifaceted surface.

Leptat etching is truly a beautiful design for your prospective glass door, but the drawback to it is that you cannot shade your pictures using light and dark, unlike in sandblasting.

The final method of glass door design is, of course, stained and colored glass. Stained and colored glass is created using metallic oxides to make colors in the glass; these days, subtly tinted glass can commonly be seen in doors and windows, and creates a beautiful effect on the sunshine.

Stained glass is also more subtle now, with a bit of staining and most of the glass left transparent so that the effect is not so garishly bright. Stained glass can be designed using liquid or semi-solid lead for the outlines, and then soldering pieces of tinted glass together for the stained glass pieces. To create it in your own home, you can use glass paints.

Murano dinnerware - perfect party favors

Giving a beautiful silver spoon with Murano glass handle in breath-taking Klimt colors as a party favor would ensure that the party would be talked about for a long time. But how did it all start, what is the origin of party favors?

Not only that they are very beautiful, but they can actually be used, and remind their owners of the young couple.

Murano silverware and dinnerware comes in several designs, and they can be cheese knife, butter knife, coffee spoons, antipasto forks and many different serving spoons. They are gold or silver-plated, but the beauty comes from handles. Each handle is made in Murano, Italy, by famous Venetian glass makers, using ancient glass making techniques more than thousand years old. The technique used on dinnerware handles is called ‘millefiori' – thousand flowers – and they look like there are thousands of colorful flowers trapped in the glass. Particularly beautiful are pieces of silverware with handles inspired by Gustav Klimt, famous Austrian painter, whose vivid colors create opulent and luxurious look.

There is an additional reason for choosing such special party favor as Murano dinnerware: because this party favor is not cheap, the couple would find it easier to limit the number of guests to something approaching reasonable, unless they want to go bankrupt.

History of Venetian Glass Furniture

Venetian glass, renowned since the Middle Ages, reached its artistic pinnacle and popularity in the 16th century. So great was its fame that Venice's glassworkers earned extremely well enjoyed privileges almost equal to the nobility's.

To keep the secrets of the industry within Venice, the Doge and the ruling Council enforced a guild system and forbade the departure of its glassworkers for foreign lands. So strict was this rule that those who did emigrate were sometimes pursed by assassins sent by the council.

By the 17th century, however, the Venetian glass trade had fallen low: Venetian glass and mirror workers had succumbed to the enticements, the threats of assassins notwithstanding, of other countries eager to learn Venice's secrets and artistry. That said the state continued until the 19th century when Antonio Salbiata, employing techniques from Venice’s golden age of glass, sparked a revival in the industry.

Today, the same techniques are employed to reproduce those Venetian mirrors: designs are drawn on paper patterns; the glass is cut into the desired shapes, and passes through several stages using special tools to cut and polish the designs. Since each step must be handcrafted, each Venetian mirror takes at least a week by craftsmen, working with painstaking care and attention, to complete.

Today you can view collections of Venetian glass furniture in shops and online from a Venetian dressing table and venetian glass bedside to handcrafted Venetian Mirrors crafted to the smallest detail, and see a reflection of that bright and glorious era when Venice was known as the centre of art.

Breakfast - Porridge made with semi-skimmed milk and bluberries [250 cals]
Lunch - Chicken & bacon sandwich and glass of whole milk. [600 cals]
Snack - Veg salad [100 cals]
Dinner - Lentil soup, two wholewheat chapattis and low fat yoghurt [700 cals]
Snack - Fruit salad [250 cals]

That's 1900 calories. I'm looking to maintain and I'm not exercising. I'm also drinking plenty of water.

And another question... when people say women should have 2000 calories, is that with or without exercise or just for a normal day, because it seems like a lot. Thanks!

What are Best Ways to Undertake Detox Diet

Before considering ways to “detox”, let us first understand what toxins are. Without getting involved into scientific terminologies we could look upon anything that is capable of causing a disease on contacting or on being absorbed by body tissues, or simply put anything that is poisonous to our biological functioning, is a toxin.

From this point of view our body also produces a lot of waste matter which can be termed as toxin; fortunately our biological system is so programmed that it gets rid of these toxins as a normal function.

A detox diet, then, is a dietary system that involves introduction or elimination of certain items of food or drink for the purpose of assisting the body to “purify” itself, or cleanse itself, of toxins, the poisonous substance(s). Detoxing is believed to improve health, resistance to diseases, energy, and aid in natural weight loss.

However, many dieticians and doctors regard “detoxing” as no more effective than drinking a glass of water and as such regard detoxing as a fad.

Usually "Detox" diets suggest that majority of your food intake should be restricted to fruits and vegetables, and water. Alcohol is totally eliminated. There are many variants of detox diet plans including juice fasting, water fasting, lemonade diet, etc. There are many advocates of these various detox diets and plans. However, most of them are a little harsh for a common man.

The following 7 day detox plan follows the basic tenets of detox but is safer, more flexible and hence sensible and will ensure sufficient nutrients to the body while still aiding to lose weight.

Your diet may include:
Fruits: Apples, bananas, pears, oranges, etc. either fresh, frozen or dried, or canned in natural fruit juice;
Fruit juice: Homemade fresh fruit juices or smoothies – not sweetened;
Vegetables: Almost any vegetable such as carrots, turnip, sprouts, cabbage, onions, peppers, sweet corn, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, salad, etc. – fresh or frozen.
Beans and lentils: Any beans such as haricot, cannelloni, red kidney, black eye, red lentils, green lentils, etc fresh, or dried or canned in water;
Potatoes – all types
Brown rice and rice noodles
Fresh fish: Any fresh fish cod, salmon, lobster, plaice, mackerel, crab, trout, haddock, tuna, Dover sole, red mullet, prawns, etc;
Unsalted nuts: Brazil, cashew, hazel nuts, peanuts, almonds, pecans, pine nuts, macadamia, walnuts, pistachio, etc;
Live natural yoghurt;
Garlic, ginger and fresh herbs;
Honey;
Water: Tap or mineral water at least 2 liters a day;
Herbal or fruit teas

Avoid the following:
Chicken, turkey, Red meat, and meat products such as burgers, sausages, etc;
Milk and milk products such as cheese, cream and butter;
Eggs;
Bread, etc. that contains wheat;
Salted snacks, salted nuts;
Sweets, jam, chocolate, sugar;
Alcohol;
Coffee, tea;
Fizzy drinks and squashes;
Processed foods, Sauces, salad dressing, pickles, mayonnaise;
Salt.

The detox diet suggested here is easy to follow, and will permit enjoyable meals without violating the requirements of detoxing.

hey guys, i wanna know where i can go to in person to buy rods and tubing for glass blowing. i know i can purchase them off the internet, but i would rather go and pick the supplies up in person. Like what stores for example? thanks!

Unless you live in one of a very few cities, you are going to have to have it shipped to you. Some of the products, especially soft glass tubing can be had from sign supply companies for neon tubing work.
Many people who do bead work with torches use compatible stained glass intended for fusing, cutting it into strips.
