Gold Stocks: 43,101 Reasons to Leverage the Alchemy Created by MCOON

Would you trade in your Washington paper (currency) for Wall Street paper (stocks)? Right now it might be hard to trust either. But there is an upside to this economic mess if you plan strategically, and treat both types of paper like Indy car tires that need to be changed out in a pit stop from time to time when their usefulness is spent. During the course of this race, which I will map out for you in detail after an introduction, there are only two simple pit stops before the final finish.

There is a raging debate going on amongst economists, both of the Keynesian and Austrian persuasions, as to whether the economic slump is leading us toward a true deflation or an eventual hyperinflation. If the economy is mimicking the Great Depression, is one argument, then cash is king, and dollars (the reserve currency of the world) are where you should be vested. Steer clear of the stock market. Wait on the sidelines until market sentiment is so negative that there is a pervasive attitude of apathy and indifference. This will be the turning point, if that can be prognosticated.

The other side of the argument says that no way are we headed for a depression-style deflation, but rather an extremely inflationary environment, the likes of which we have never before beheld (except in third world countries). This is based upon the monetary and fiscal policies that the current administration and their eager counterparts at the Fed are engaging in with their rescue packages, bailouts, economic "stimuli," and the dreaded last ditch effort of quantitative easing, a.k.a. debt monetization or MCOON (money created out of nothing.

You don't know which camp is right. The so-called experts called it all wrong, including the dead-head Fed heads, Alan and Ben. 'Span tinker-toyed with the interest rate all the way down to 1%, and 'Anke is following suit (bettering it to 0-.25%), ignoring cause-and-effect linkages of his predecessor's actions. Arbitrarily setting the interest rates has had and will have disastrous results. When there is a finite supply of something, such as gold, silver, oil, and other natural resources, fixing its price in the market place instead of allowing it to follow a natural supply-demand curve, ends up causing shortages. However, in fixing the price of money to an artificially low rate, instead of causing shortages causes its "real" value to diminish. This is because of the printing press and MCOON. There is an ability for the Fed to literally make money in amounts that you cannot comprehend. Do you know how much even $1 trillion dollars is? You may think you do (a one followed by twelve zeros), but you have likely never personally experienced more than .0001% of that amount ($100,000) at any one time. MCOON is a catalyst for inflation because it follows the natural law that states the more available anything becomes the less rare it is, and the less will be its intrinsic value. Thus, in the exchange of goods or services, you are required to pay increasingly more units of currency than before to make up for the worth(less)ness of each unit.

The game is to beat the central bankers by thwarting their efforts at taxing your wealth by MCOON (thus devaluing your dollars). Gold is the central bankers' worst enemy. Listen to Greenspan speak about gold before his appointment as Chairman of the Federal Reserve: "In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation... this is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists' antagonism toward the gold standard." The father of Keynesian Economics, John Maynard Keynes, called gold a "barbaric relic," and said that we were all "dead in the end" anyway.

If central banks were made up of alchemists, with the ability to create gold, they would have. But the next best thing was to slowly withdraw its function (or at least try) and replace it with a substitute medium. This was done first by receipts for gold, and then keeping only a fraction of it in reserve. Eventually, gold was completely replaced by fiat (paper backed only by faith). How long will the faith in the dollar persist?

Here's where the alchemy of gold stocks kicks in. While the Fed is busy printing dollars you can be accumulating gold stocks from solid junior mining companies with good 43-101's. Printing by the fed now may cause a "type" of printing for your gold stock portfolio later. This is pit stop number one for you in the race. Here is where you trade in your low-tread tires (depreciating dollars) for new rubber (gold stocks). But remember, these new tires will wear down, too, and are not to be used indefinitely. Gold stocks will only take you so far, and will serve as your wheels only for a "season." During this time you must have chosen wisely your pit crew (men such as Bob Moriarty, James Sinclair, Jay Taylor, Jason Hommel, and David Morgan) to assist you in changing out your tires.

If you act fast enough, building speed and position (accumulating cash) before the first pit stop, you'll be ahead of the pack, and have a fresh set of tires (buy gold stocks) on before the rest of your competitors make their stops (pile into gold stocks, driving up their price).

Having eventually duplicated your efforts by having a diversified portfolio of junior gold stocks, you now have many sets of wheels (a whole team) on the speedway, and it becomes less important how each individual driver (gold stock) does than what the overall performance of the team is. By diversifying, you increase your odds of winning, and even one driver can make up for many sub par or mediocre ones. Also, second place, third, or even lower is no shame-you still come out a winner.

You see, in this race there will be a season in which the drivers (gold stocks) that have not crashed or gotten disqualified (become bankrupt) will all synergize. The leader will cause a draft big enough for all to fall in line behind and be effectively "pulled" along. Even the little guy's performance will be enhanced. In a season to come you will see surviving gold stocks that started out as pennies per share become valued in the tens and hundreds of dollars per share.

You (and only you) get to choose the next pit stop at this point. Nobody can do it for you. This is the last one before the home stretch. Here is where you trade your gold stocks back in for cash. But this is also temporary. Very temporary. It is only to make sure you are fresh and finish strong. Because almost as soon as you make this trade, you finish the race. Here you trade the cash tires back in for golden tires. This isn't rubber or paper. This is real gold bullion, and these tires are built to last.

Well, if you know whom in your family bought it, which essentially is the provenance(history of ownership) of the piece that would help tremendously. You can try the Auction Houses; Sotheby's, Christie's, and Bonham's which have their past sales and auction results online. You'll have to register with them, which is free but that should give you a good start. If you have access to past auction catalogs that would help too.

Of course you can go to an appraiser who specializes in Chinese metalwork but you may have to pay for their services. One thing to remember, auction prices are usually inflated so the value you see from a auction will probably be higher than its actual worth.

You may want to check for marks on the bottom which will indicate if its been produced recently, basically within the past 50 years or so or older than that.

Ancient Egypt - The Mask of King Tutankhamun

The intact tomb of King Tutankhamun was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter in the Valley of Kings. King Tut, the Boy King, would have been relegated to relative obscurity, reigning Ancient Egypt for a mere 10 years, without the discovery of his tomb. The everlasting image of King Tut’s mask has been seen around the world and has come to symbolize the Ancient Egyptian civilization, as iconic as the pyramids themselves.

The mask protected the head of the mummy of Tutankhamun. It presents us with a beautiful, albeit idealized, portrait of the young King. Its purpose was to enable his soul to recognize his mummy and to re-enter it. Protection was assured by a magic formula engraved on the shoulders and the back of the mask. The usual Nemes headdress knotted back at the nape of the neck is a striped blue-green imitating Lapis Lazuli, a semi-precious stone found in Afghanistan. The headdress golden stripes are of solid gold. On the forehead of the mask are a royal Uraeus (a rearing cobra) and a vulture's head, symbols of the two patron deities of Lower and Upper Egypt; Wadjet and Nekhbet, both protecting the King, in gold inlaid with semi-precious stones and colored glass. The mask's eyes are made of obsidian and quartz with a touch of red at the corners: the cosmetic lines and the lids are of inlaid blue glass. The divine beard, plaited and turned up at the end, is of Cloisonn work (colored glass held in a framework of gold.) The wide necklace collar is formed of rows of Lapis Lazuli, Quartz, Amazonite and colored glass beads attached at each shoulder to a gold falcon's head (representing Horus) ornamented with obsidian. All of this intended to protect the King in his journey to the afterlife. This fabulous mask is held at the Egyptian Antiquities Museum in Cairo when not touring the world.

Ancient Egyptians believed their Pharaohs live on if their names are remembered. If that is true then a young boy born circa 3000 years ago may outlive them all.

Recently, however, Chinese pearl farmers have switched their emphasis from the quantity of Freshwater Pearls to the quality. This ensures that the pearls exported are of the best conditions and beauty.

Freshwater Pearls range in size from 4mm to 11mm. The majority is of oval, button and coin shape. Unlike saltwater pearls, they are not quite a perfect circle. Colors range from white, cream, gold, peach, pink, and purple. Some may even have a rose and/or a green over tone to it. Freshwater Pearls tend not to have the same intense luster by comparison to Akoya Pearls, but still have an excellent sheen to them. This and the general oval shapes they come in, tends to make Freshwater pearl jewelry less expensive than other types, and thus making them very popular. Freshwater Pearls do have a thicker nacre, however, which makes them more durable against chipping and general wear and tear.

Akoya Pearls are considered to have the best luster of all the types of pearls. Saltwater pearls, these derive from the Akoya oyster, which is the smallest of the pearl oysters. Therefore, Akoya Pearls tend to be the smallest of pearls. Sizes range from 2mm to 10 mm, but on average, you will find an Akoya Pearl that is 6mm to 7mm. Harvested primarily in Japan and China today, cultured Akoya’s were actually introduced early in the 20th century.

Akoya pearls are closest to being a perfect sphere compared to other pearls. On average, they are 70% to 80% round or near-round. The rest tend to be baroque or semi-baroque. The surface of an Akoya ranges from a clean surface to lightly or moderately blemished, while the nacre can be thick, medium, or thin. Again, the thicker the nacre of the pearl, the more durable it will be. Akoya’s also range in a variety of natural colors including white, cream, some yellow, pink, and blue. Some may even have a rose or green overtone as well.

Tahitian Pearls were first introduced internationally quite recently in the mid-1970’s. Cultivated from black lipped oysters, it is important to know that a pearl is a Tahitian Pearl only if it is cultured in Polynesia. Black lipped oysters tend to be large, with some weighing as much as 10 pounds! So their pearls also can be abnormally large as well. However, on average, Tahitian Pearls are generally 9 to 10 mm and can span anywhere from 8 to 14mm. Tahitian Pearls generally appear black, which some are. However most are a deep grey or green color that appears to be black. Other colors also include blue, peacock, aubergine and pistachio. The luster of the pearl can be quite beautiful from the dark shades of colors present in Tahitian Pearls. The shape of the pearl is split between mostly round or near-round and baroque or semi-baroque. The last 20% of average pearls generally have an oval, button or drop shape to them. With the dark colors, Tahitian Pearls also tend to have a variety of surface types; with clean, lightly, moderately or heavily blemished. So depending on the surface, this will affect the quality and pricing of your Tahitian Pearl jewelry. These types also come with a thick nacre, making them strong against nicks and other wear and tear.

Lastly, we have South Sea Pearls. South Sea Pearls derive from anywhere on the coasts of Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Generally, 60% of your South Sea Pearls will come from Australia. However, those that are more creamy or yellow are generally produced in Indonesia. Today, South Sea Pearls are considered to be the most cultivated type of pearl on the market.

Traditionally, South Sea Pearls are larger, ranging in size from 9mm to 18mm. On average, however, you will find a pearl about 13mm. The shape of it tends to be oval, button, or drop shaped 40 to 60% of the time. However, you can find a variety of baroque or round pearls as well. South Sea Pearl jewelry tends to be a little pricier because of its unique characteristics. The luster of the pearl tends to look more satiny and has a distinct shine to it. The surface of the pearl is also quite naturally good, with a range from clean to lightly blemished. In addition, South Sea Pearls come in colors that are not common in other types of pearls, which include gold, white, and silver. The golden hues are especially exquisite with the natural satin finish of the pearl. You can also find South Sea Pearls in blues, creams, with possible overtones of rose or green. The nacre of the pearl also tends to be much thicker than other types of pearls as well, making it quite durable.

I have a pendant that looks like large locket Cloisonne, how can I find the value of it?

I brought it on Ebay in a lot of assorted vintage jewelry it is round brown background with a flower and a two butterflies on each side of it. There appears to be gold filigree wiring in between the different sections of the design. The pendant is puffy and looks like a locket but is not because it is sealed with gold plating where the two pieces meet. I will try and leave a link for a photo.

well here are some other cloisonne pendants on ebay
since yours is vintage it might be worth a little
more, but it's hard to say.

regardless one of the best ways to try to figure out
how much something is worth is to check for it in
ebay and see what simular things are going for.

appraisels tend to cost too much,
unless it's an antique, or something.
